Get Buzzed for Finals
May 5, 2008
Gonna be up late studying for finals this week? If you want to be seen while studious, check out Dominican Joe’s, one of my favorite study/ chill areas. It’s a friendly place–not too trendy or pretentious and they buy their coffee from Austin non-profit Makarios, which provides educational and economical help to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
If you’re staying in, I’ve found something delicious and cheap as an alternative to Starbucks. HEB has this Cafe Ole brand with fake names like “Houston Blend” and what caught my eye today: “Snickernut cookie”. I know a snickernut sounds like a Dr. Suess character and the name is just as made up as his books. But the HEB Web site explains the flavor as a Mexican coffee flavored with vanilla with cinnamon. Come on, HEB, the obvious name for this coffee is Vanillamon.
However silly the name, this coffee tastes and smells like cookies and like deliciousness. Especially paired with the always $2 creamer, HEB style as well.
[That thing is 32 fl oz. Yay.]
The coffee is $5.99 compared to the $7.44 Starbucks Breakfast Blend–the only SB flavor they had at the store. I’m scared to know what Houston blend tastes like.
