Condo by Condo West

Looks like West Campus right?

It’s 10th and Red River. Also, I don’t know what the construction on Cesar Chavez and Congress is, but all this condo makin’ is going to make SXSW crazy. New musicians and drunkies trying to navigate around construction-y Austin sounds like a fun situation to me.

The Evil Empire

March 5, 2008

For a class project, myself and a friend want to take pictures and audio from a drum circle or class. There’s a Brazillian class at the Armstrong School of Music. I believe this is the same place the Austin Lyric Opera uses for practice and classes.

That link by the way is to a horribly designed web site, but that’s a different story.

Anyway it’s on Barton Springs Road and the teachers thought it’d be fine but then we got an e-mail saying that quote, “the ‘evil empire’ bought our studio and intends to build more condos so we’re in between spaces right now.”

The class will practice again on March 19, but at Copa, not at their usual studio.

I’m guessing this is for The Milan (R 25 on the map).

Come on white people. I know you love gentrification, but do we really need that much of it?

Revolution?

March 1, 2008

All the businesses on Riverside from Lakeshore to the Breakers (apartments) are now closed for this Revolution Riverside. No one will most likely care about the Radio Shack, but there was an insurance place and small Mexican food restaurant and the Libertad bank. A few complexes on Lakeshore have already had residents move out and begun to be demolished. What for?

For this.

Ooh you got your cool blues-ish song and Abercrombie feel. Youth, sexyness, rich kids, moving people who can pretty much only afford to live on Riverside (I’m one of those people) out. I doubt they’ll rip up everything, especially not the student apartments, but transforming Riverside into an extension of downtown will undoubtedly raise prices.

At least we’ll get feedback in the design process!!
